Ablarc - Not sure if this blog is at all active, but it features extensive illustrated collections of urban and architectural history
Anybody Want a Peanut? A local blog that is not only investigative, but funny.
Heart of the Continent - One of the better-looking local blogs, brought to you by an architecture student at the University of Manitoba.
Market Urbanism ”Urbanism for Capitalists / Capitalism for Urbanism,” the subheading reads. This New York-based blog is the standard-bearer for urbanists who believe throwing yet another layer of paint on the rusted hulk of postwar overplanning—anti-density zoning codes, stifling public monopolies on transportation infrastructure, and market inhibiting development corporations—will not work.
One Man Committee Walter Krawec puts his finger on the pulse of urban Winnipeg, chronicling both the good and bad, great and small developments happening around the city.
Planetizen Top-notch urban planning news and opinion aggregator.
Policing, Politics and Public Policy Excellent blog from Menno Zacharias, a 34-year veteran of the Winnipeg Police Serice who retired as Deputy Chief of Police in 2008. Zacharias takes a look at “pertinent policing issues” and “the impact of public policy on how police services are delivered in Winnipeg”
Progressive Winnipeg Local blogger Graham Hnatiuk is not afraid to do some digging and name some names.
Reserved at All Times Stark street photography from in and around downtown Brandon, MB.
Residents of the Exchange District By far, the most important revitalization organization in downtown Winnipeg.
Spacing City planning, politics, arts and life. Originally focusing only on Toronto, Spacing now covers every Canadian region but the Prairies. This should change.
State of the City Brian F. Kelcey uses State of the City to examine policy and governance in North Americans. Not just another parochial blog inwardly focused on local issues, we wish it was, since Kelcey is the most potent critic of Winnipeg’s chronic inertia.
Think Progress Matt Yglesias is a well-known liberal American blogger, and his occasional posts on zoning and parking reform are refreshing.
The Uniter “Winnipeg’s weekly urban journal” is the University of Winnipeg’s student weekly. An attractive publication that features news stories by hungry aspiring reporters, extensive coverage of Mennonite indie bands, and the occasional opinion piece by a certain, perpetually angry urban nerd.
Urbanphoto The brainchild of Christopher DeWolf, Montreal’s most devoted urbanist, Urbanphoto provides illustrated commentary on city life from around the world.
West End Dumplings If it happened in Winnipeg’s past, Christian Cassidy has probably researched it up, down and sideways. This blog goes deep into the city’s history, utilizing newspaper archives, photographs, and illustrative narration.
Winnipeg Internet Pundits Radio show on UMFM (101.5 FM), Wednesdays at 5 pm. Local bloggers take on local issues. Hilarity ensues.
Winnipeg Love Hate Photographer Bryan Scott has been called the “Henry Kalen of the Facebook generation,” for his extensive documentation of Winnipeg. While this accurately describes the position Scott is acheiving as Winnipeg’s photographer laureate, but seems to undermine the complexity of his work, and Scott’s dedication to making even the hidden corners of the city that Destination Winnipeg and Chamber of Commerce don’t want you to see, look strangely beautiful. Don’t forget to buy the book, Winnipeg Love Hate. The foreword is fantastic.
